This now banned dragnet surveillance tactic was used to great effect in Seattle for the most petty of reasons.... there was a protest at the Police Union building.

Little to no property damage or other harm was reported (other than the cops beating ppl of course) none the less the fucking FBI built a case entirely on dragnet phone spying tools fit for a Tom Clancy novel.

For our "automated builder setup", I've just prepared a PR adding support for RPM based systems. The PR is still marked WIP as I don't have any RPM test system at hand here – so I'm calling out for help:

Anybody willing to test the setup scripts on Fedora, RHEL, CentOS or the likes? 🙏

(more tests on Debian-based systems (Debian, Ubuntu, Mint …) are of course welcome, too)

@Rusty @dragonarchitect I disagree re: webOS and FirefoxOS.

#webOS failed due to lack of market penetration (there was only like 1 Tablet from #hp) and #FirefoxOS failed because @mozillaofficial didn't even offer to sell devices to folks like me and @fuchsiii that wanted one.

  • The only devices with #Firefox OS in the #EU were a few #NetLock'd #prepaid phones that got sold in Spain (reqiring ID for no valid reason!) and which were essentially useless for anyone outside of Spain.

Add to that the absurdity that #Mozilla basically expected carriers (!!) to maintain and provide the #AppStore|s themselves and you get market fracturing worse than the "P.R." #China (!!!)…

It was mismanaged and self-sabotaged in the worst possible way.

  • Similar to how #OLPC never sold the #XO1 in retail and didn't even offer the "Give one, Get one" deal in most places...

The #Duopoly of #Android & #iOS wasn't unavoidable, but an outcome of #SelfSabotage and halfassed non-commitment by competitors!

Interesting!
I'm pretty used to using #nextcloud for contact and calendar sync with #davx5 on android.

/e/OS comes with its own integration in the "Accounts" Settings.
You can just add your own nextcloud URL and username/password and it automatically syncs contacts, calendars and also photos etc, which is configurable, which is rretty neat!

Since this is usually coupled with #murena's cloud offering, it shows as "Free Plan" and provides an "Upgrade" button
